If there’s one thing you really shouldn’t miss during your stay, it’s the Cité de la Mer, a one-of-a-kind leisure and discovery park. You can discover three breathtaking areas.

The aquarium

Titanic exhibition

Extend your visit with the Titanic exhibition. On April 10, 1912, the Titanic called into Cherbourg’s large artificial harbor. Step back in time as you enter the baggage room and discover objects found at the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean. During this exceptional visit, you’ll experience the final moments leading up to the sinking, as well as the investigation – an exhibition rich in emotion.

Ravalet Park and Château

Discover the Château des Ravalet. Set in a 14-hectare park, the château was built in the 16th century by Seigneur Jean II de Ravalet, and is famous for being the setting for Julien and Marguerite de Ravalet’s forbidden love affair. In 1996, the château was listed as a historic monument. During your visit, take time to lose yourself in the garden and discover plants from North America, the Middle East and Australia. There’s also a greenhouse with over 200 varieties of dahlia.

Les parapluies de Cherbourg

Take advantage of your stay in Cherbourg to visit the manufacture of the famous Cherbourg umbrellas. During your visit, you’ll discover the different stages of production, a film presentation of the brand and its history.

Visit Cherbourg harbor

Immerse yourself in the past with a visit to the world’s largest artificial harbor (1,500 hectares). Come aboard a boat and discover this exceptional site, with its dikes, forts and construction history. The idea of building a port to protect this part of France from England dates back to the 17th century. A century later, Louis XVI decided to launch one of the greatest maritime construction projects of all time, but it would be under Napoleon 1st that the building project would take on its full scope.

Fort du Roule

Climb to the top of the fort for an exceptional view of the town and surrounding area. Built between the 19th and 20th centuries to protect the harbor from possible English attack, the fort now houses the Cherbourg Liberation Museum.

The Liberation Museum

Inaugurated on June 6, 1954, this is one of France’s first museums dedicated to the memory of the Second World War. Discover the daily lives of civilians and soldiers, photos of the occupied and liberated city, objects and history.
