Idea 1: The castle

When you arrive, don’t miss the remains of the keep, still standing. It’s easy to imagine this former 11th-century stronghold. In the vicinity of the remains, a short discovery trail will enable you to learn more about this edifice of the past. A few steps away is the castle courtyard, where you can admire the buildings. Exhibitions are held here on a regular basis, allowing you to appreciate the interior.

Tip 2: A stroll around the harbour

Admire the magnificent scenery and the view of the Pointe d’Agon opposite from the beaching port. Take a stroll to admire the boats, the pontoon, the distant view, the famous shipwreck on the side… At its peak in the 19th century for the lime trade, the port is now used exclusively for pleasure boating.

Tip 3: The lime kilns and maritime museum

Built in the 19th century, the lime kilns are an imposing reminder ofa bygone, prosperous industrial era. Very impressive in their green setting, they are listed as historic monuments. A short interpretive tour is available, as well as a beautiful viewpoint. The maritime museum offers artists’ residencies and exhibitions on local maritime traditions.

Idea 4: hamlets

Regnéville-sur-Mer is a charming old fishing village that has retained all its old-world charm. Several hamlets with pretty stone houses bear witness to this maritime past. Grimouville and Urville are among the prettiest. It’s best to come by bike and explore the narrow streets, such as the Cour à Tôt, to appreciate the atmosphere and beauty.

The “entre mer et chaux” (between sea and lime) trail proposed by the commune of Regnéville-sur-Mer is an interpretive circuit that allows you to discover the history of the commune and its emblematic sites, such as the castle and the lime kilns. Signs line the route, and QR codes provide access to the content. Approximately 2.5km long, it takes around 1h30 to complete.

Tip 7: GR and Coutances Tourisme circuits

The GR223, known as the customs trail, passes through Regnéville-sur-Mer and runs along the harbor from the former Haute-Normandie through the Cotentin to the south of the département towards Montmartin-sur-Mer. This popular trail is a veritable circuit, brimming with magnificent views, architectural treasures and more. For local hikers, Coutances Tourisme also offers a number of circuits (36 in all), including number 25, a 17km circuit that takes in almost all of Regnéville-sur-Mer.
